ABOUT US
Mid‐Iowa Boxer Rescue, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was formed in 2007. We work closely with many small shelters throughout Iowa to save Boxers. Many dogs come to us untrained and in need of medical care. The dogs are taught proper manners and nurtured back to good health in foster homes.
All pets available for adoption are up to date on shots and spayed or neutered. The only exception would be very young puppies and/or medically compromised adults.
We will always take an adopted dog back into our program if your situation changes, but we ask you to think carefully before adding a new member to your family and require that all adults in the home agree to the process.
Please remember that these are rescue animals. Most of the time we do not have much history on them and only know what we have learned about them while in their foster home. As with any other dog they will need training & routine veterinary care throughout their life. Some of these dogs have had some training and some have not. Every profile is accurate to the best of our knowledge and we would never intentionally mislead anyone about any dog's health, personality, or breed. All dogs will need continued training, adequate time for adjustment, and slow introductions to help them succeed in their new forever homes.

Are you aware that a Boxer...
Can chew? Can dig? Can bark? Can be provoked to be aggressive? Can jump over fences and gates? Can chase cats, birds or small dogs? Can play too roughly with small children? Can be possessive of food, toys and treats? Needs socialization and training? Can live to be 8–12 years of age? Requires annual vaccinations and vet check‐ups? Can challenge other dogs in the household for dominance? Can become overly protective of their home and family members? Will need daily love and attention for the rest of their life? Requires flea and tick preventative medication? Can develop health problems as they grow older? Requires a lot of patience, time, effort, money and love? Is very loyal and loving and can be heartbroken if they lose their home and family?
If any of these things are a concern for you, please do your research before adopting a Boxer.

Trixy
ADOPTION PENDING!
Trixy is the white girl. She had some issues with other dogs in the shelter and we don't know how she will do now. It might have been the close confines or she may need to be an only dog. She is 5 and settled well into her foster. A good reliable girl with no problems or accidents. Good with people and kids. 🐾
Bluey & Rascal
ADOPTED!
These boys are 5 months old, not house-trained and not neutered but they have had all their shots. They are typical puppies. Very active. Sweet & smart! We will be very picky about adopters. They need to go together. Must have a fenced yard and someone home a lot of the time. Another dog would be a plus!

Gus
ADOPTED!
Gus is a neutered 1-year-old male who is looking for his forever home. He knows a few commands like sit and come, but when there is a person approaching the house, or when out walking he loses his listening ears. He pulls on the leash, his foster family has been working on it and has seen improvements already. HE LOVES balls. And is so great at bringing them right back so he can chase after them again, and again, and again!! He needs a home with a fenced yard. He is okay with cats, but he has a lot of energy. He also LOVES to snuggle, especially if you let him under the covers with you. He has a big bark but no bite. He is strong and full of energy. His ideal home would be a calm place and have the time and patience to do more formal training. And Gus has that something extra that not all boxers have...a tail! 🐾

Sox
ADOPTED!
Sweet 3-year-old boy. House trained. Good with kids!
Shelter has provided us with some information on Sox. Great name for this boy who has 4 white socks on his legs. He was at risk in his previous home of being killed and the shelter could not let that happen to this beautiful boy. He has been tested around small children and did well. He is nervous with shelter life (just look at his posture, his eyes, & licking his lips) because of the over-crowding & noise. He has done well around other dogs, but it appears he may be a lady's man, liking the other female dogs at the shelter. He needs to get out of the shelter and into a foster home so he can get up to date on his vetting, learn more of his personality, and be able to let go of some past harsh memories. The sooner, the better to help this boy become his wiggly boxer self again. Message this page with your information or complete the application.
Be a helper, be a doer, be an angel for Sox! He is waiting for YOU!
Sox needs our help ASAP. He is in an overcrowded shelter in Southern Iowa and just came out of a very bad situation.

Zeus
ADOPTED!
"I am Zeus! Hear me woof!" Oh, hey there! I'm looking for some help finding a new place to crash. I'm almost a year old, have a few things yet to learn but I'm eager to please. You Like Kisses? When I'm happy, I'm a kissing machine. I know how to sit. I'm kennel/house trained & come when called. I'm doing better with other dogs but you gotta take it slow and protect me when I get overwhelmed I especially like girl dogs. One of the things I'm working on is jumping. I get excited and my legs become springs.....so no little humans as I may knock them over. I'm working on that and the leash thing. I would rather just run, jump, play in the fenced backyard but sometimes humans put that leash thing on and I have to behave. Tough for a pup to understand but with your help, I know I'll get the hang of it. Every pup needs to have some boundaries and training, I get that, but I haven't been to puppy school so YOU will help me, right? Gotta go play...have your people call my people if you got a nice bed for me to chill in! 🐾
ADOPTED!
Sparky
ADOPTED!
Let me introduce to you Sparky! This boy is ready for a new home. He was S & S = scared and skinny when he came into rescue. We want you to know he has gained some weight in his foster home and he is happy & playful now. Sparky gets along with other dogs, big and small, and also gets along with cats (unless your cat is a snob). He enjoys people and older children (12 & up) He is a typical goofy boxer and has the "tongue out Tuesday" down pat. He wants to be your Netflix and chill partner as you can see by his couch picture. (He says "Hey, where's the popcorn bowl?") This boy is a cutie patootie with a wigglin' booty! Now if you have read this far, you are interested in adopting, and ready for a boxer family member, complete our application below.
Sparky will have some needs that an adopter will have to meet. Sparky is deaf, so a fenced yard is a must since he doesn't hear if you yell at him to come. This is also the reason for older children, as he startles easily. Sparky's new family will be able to teach him sign language as he does watch and pay attention to your face. He will pick up signs quickly with consistency and repetition. Sounds like a fun adventure, challenge, learning experience all rolled into a loving boxer bundle who will be the spark in your life! See what we did there... 🐾

Daisy
ADOPTED!
Daisy is ready for adoption. She is about 1. Until a month ago she was living on the end of a chain in someone's backyard. She is now up to date on shots and spayed. She is not reliably housebroken but is making great strides. Also not crate trained. She really needs someone home most of the time to prompt her to go out and another dog or two would be best. She gets into things when she is bored! 🐾
